Dr. Kingsley Achigbu, the Chief Medical Director of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri (FUTHO), has expressed the significance of the recent conversion of the Federal Medical Centre Owerri into a university teaching hospital. He sees it as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing the health and education sectors in Nigeria. According to Achigbu, this new status for the health institution will have positive impacts on the economy and the well-being of the citizens of Imo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Dr. Achigbu also attributed the institution’s achievements to the government’s support and the commitment of the staff and management. He emphasized that their success was rooted in core values, transparency, research development, and a zero-tolerance policy for double standards and a lazy work attitude.
The Imo Newspapers Editors/Columnists Forum visited Dr. Achigbu to honor his outstanding performance and contributions to the institution’s improvements. They noted that the institution has enjoyed relative peace and harmonious staff relationships since he took the helm, which they attribute to his effective managerial skills and commitment to service delivery. The group called on FUTHO’s management to remain dedicated to providing effective services and commended Dr. Achigbu and his team for enhancing the institution’s reputation.
