A cybersecurity researcher exploited a glitch on the CIA’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, redirecting potential CIA contacts to his own Telegram channel. The CIA’s X account is used for promotional purposes and encouraging people to get in touch to protect US national security.
The researcher, Kevin McSheehan, discovered the security mistake and registered the truncated web address, https://t.me/securelycont, to prevent potential issues. He described it as a security precaution and was surprised that the CIA hadn’t noticed the issue. The CIA corrected the mistake within an hour of the BBC’s inquiry.
