Toyota Motor, the world’s largest automaker by sales, has announced an extension of the partial production halt at two domestic assembly plants until Wednesday. This decision comes in response to an accident at a supplier’s facility, according to a company spokesperson.
The incident at supplier Chuo Spring, which is responsible for manufacturing engine and valve springs used in vehicles, has also impacted production at group companies Toyota Auto Body and Toyota Industries.
The affected assembly lines will remain halted due to the incident. Additionally, a line at one of Toyota’s group companies, Gifu Auto Body, which is used for manufacturing the Toyota Coaster minibus, will also remain stopped.
A spokesperson for Chuo Spring stated that an accident involving an explosion in a building at its Fujioka plant occurred around 12:15 p.m. (0315 GMT) on Monday, resulting in damage to the facility. Local authorities, including the police and fire department, are currently investigating the matter.
