On Friday, Barclays (BARC.L) announced the appointment of Geoffrey Belsher, an investment banking veteran, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Canada, effective October 16th.
Geoffrey Belsher has previously held senior roles at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CM.TO) and served as the President of Canadian operations for Barclays Capital and its predecessor, Lehman Brothers Canada.
Mr. Belsher will be based in Toronto and report to Richard Haworth, the CEO of the Americas, as well as the global co-heads of investment banking, Cathal Deasy and Taylor Wright.
The appointment comes as more than two dozen investment bankers left Barclays’ U.S. operations earlier this year for competitors such as Citigroup (C.N) and Jefferies Financial Group (JEF.N) during a period of managerial changes at the bank.
