The Nigerian government is planning to reduce the number of taxes payable in the country to less than ten. Currently, over 62 taxes are officially collected at different levels of government, which has been a burden on businesses.
The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms stated this during a conference, emphasizing the need to simplify the tax system and reduce the number of revenue collection agencies. The goal is to have fewer taxes and a single revenue collection agency for each tier of government to improve ease of doing business and reduce the burden on citizens and businesses.
