The Federal Government (FG), on Friday, said it has received samples of Russia’s coronavirus vaccine.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Ministry of Health’s Director of Information, Media, and Public Relations, Olujimi Oyetomi.
The statement entitled, ‘Russian Federation Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Alexey L. Shebarshin on courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Health Ministers, Russian-made COVID-19 Vaccine finally here’, further disclosed that the samples of the COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, during a visit to the ministry in Abuja.
The minister stated that the vaccine would be “quickly referred” to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as well as the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development, amongst other agencies, for review and possible validation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier in August announced the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine for use.
According to Putin, his daughter was among those inoculated.
Russia’s Health Ministry said it has given regulatory approval for the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine after less than two months of human testing.
