Katsina State Emir of Duara, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar has been taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina State on Monday night for treatment.
According to a source from the palace, Alhaji Umar had been immediately taken to Federal Medical Centre, Katsina State on Monday night because of his critical ailment.
However, the source added that the Emir had come in contact with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Katsina State, late Dr Aminua Yakubu who happened to be the Emir’s personal doctor before his death last month.
“Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar, was last night rushed to FMC Katsina. Presently, all of us in the palace have been told to go on self-isolation.
“The Katsina State index case, that doctor that died, interacted with the emir and his first wife, Hajia Binta, who is now dead. The index case was the personal doctor of the emir.
“The emir was advised to self-isolate after the index case died but he dismissed it and allowed free movement in the palace,” the source told SaharaReporters.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, had on Monday explained that some COVID-19 cases had been confirmed in the palace, and that Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had taken samples of 89 persons for testing.
