Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele, have been arrested by the Police in Lagos State.
This was ascertained on Sunday by Bala Elkana, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos.
The arrest of the popular actress and producer was due to her violation of the Lockdown restriction order placed on the State to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the uproar of the pandemic, the state government limited social gatherings in the state to a maximum of 20 people while the residents were encouraged to maintain social distancing as a way to curb the spread of the virus.
The restriction order did not leave churches, mosques, weddings, and other forms of social function out of the equation as these places are prone to high risk of infection because of the large crowd.
President Muhammadu Buhari announced a lockdown of 14 days which took effect from the 1st of April in Lagos and Ogun States, and Federal Capital Territory. These measures were put in place to impede the spread of the coronavirus with an exemption of people who provide vital services.
Elkana however notes in a statement that the Lagos State Police Command discovered a viral video showing a crowd of people particularly in the entertainment industry.
According to him, the crowd was gathered in an estate along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State by Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello – popularly referred to as JJC Skillz.
Police operatives from Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba were immediately deployed to the locale where the actress was apprehended.
The spokesman also added that investigation has begun while the operatives are on the lookout to arrest other identified persons featured in the video.
Elkana furthermore disclosed that Azeez Fashola, popularly called Naira Marley and her husband JJC Skillz were among the party participants.
The twosome have been requested to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday in their best interest.
