The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in fulfillment of its role to provide Military Aid to Civil Authority(MACA) airlifted medical materials donated by Jack Ma Foundation, China for tackling the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), from the Muritala Mohammed International Airport(MMIA), Lagos to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
It was discovered that the medical materials which consisted of 107 boxes of medical supplies and equipment including surgical masks, medical disposable protective clothing, face shields and detection kits weighing about 3,000 pounds were airlifted in a single mission using the NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft (NAF 913) and was handed over by the NAF Aircrew to a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health led by Alhaji Abdulazeez Mashi Abdullahi who happens to be the Permanent Secretary on Wednesday the 25th of March, 2020 at the NAIA, Abuja.
Alhaji Abdullahi in his address to the press thanked the Chief of Air Staff in the person of Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar for the timely release of the aircraft into action. He also expressed gratitude to the NAF officers and men who took part in the mission for their professionalism. He recorded that “the donated items would go a long way in supporting the government’s effort to curb the spread of the pandemic”.
The NAF Leadership also mentioned its readiness to provide any form of support within its statutory responsibility to provide the civil authority with the needed help as the Nation continues to work selflessly in dealing with the virus outbreak.
