The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Adeleke Adewolu as the new executive commissioner on the governing board of Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
The confirmation comes after President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Mr. Adeleke for the position.
In the course of deliberation, some lawmakers questioned President Buhari’s nomination and why there was no southeastern person in NCC governing board.
However, Senate President Ahmed Lawan consulted the committee and he was properly informed by Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Senator Abaribe said the southeast governing board member resigned his appointment this prompting President Buhari to nominate his replacement.
Below is an extract of President Buhari’s nomination letter;
Buhari in the letter nominating Adewolu said: “In accordance with section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Act, 2003, I hereby present Adeleke Moronfolu Adewolu for confirmation as Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission by the distinguished Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“While hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the distinguished Senate, please accept, Mr. Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
Mr. Adeleke will replace Sunday Dare ss the southwest zone representative on the NCC governing board.
In August 2019, President Buhari appointed Sunday Dare as the Minister of Youth and Sports.
