Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, had an unpleasant encounter with Boko Haram as the terrorist sect opened fire on his convoy.
The terrorist struck at about 9 pm on Thursday while the Governor was returning from a visit to Bama Local Government Area. Zulum who was embarking on his “familiarity and need assessment tour” of the 27 LGAs in his state.
He had visited 4 local governments; Bayo, kwaya Kusar, Askira Uba and Gwoza.
According to a source, “Luckily the governor, his commissioners and other vehicles in the convoy escaped unhurt but the last vehicle which is an army gun truck was pelted with bullets”
He further added, “Immediately after they fired us, our men in collaboration with the armed personnel from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, retaliated and thwarted the ambush”.
The Governor was attacked in Konduga which is very near the infamous Sambisa forest.
This is not the first time Boko Haram is attacking a Governor in the state. Early this year, they attacked the convoy of immediate past Governor, Kashim Shettima.
